Hernia Treatment Options

There are many people who suffer from hiatal hernias each year. A hernia is the protrusion of an organ or body part into an area where it shouldn’t be. A hiatal hernia is a condition that occurs when the part of the stomach, and in some cases the lower part of the esophagus, pushes through the hiatus in the diaphragm into the chest cavity.

If you happen to suffer from a hiatus hernia there are a number of things that you can rely upon in the period of time until you are scheduled for your surgery. Please note that if you routinely and habitually bend down to pick up heavy objects, then you will be not only causing yourself a significant amount of pain but you will also be aggravating your hiatal hernia as well.

If these treatments don’t clear up your symptoms there a variety of over the counter drugs that can be used. When suffering from acute symptoms reach for antacids like Tums and Mylanta.

When being proactive look for antacids such as Zantac.

Umbilical hernia is not surgically repaired in the small children’s case because usually until the child reaches the age of 3 the hernia shrinks and heals by itself. Some mothers try to increase the speed of the healing by tapping a coin to the bulge and forcing it to stay there and push it back, but this method is not medically tested or recommended.

The Herniabible diet is all about controlling your hernia pain and swelling by eating more fresh fruit and vegetables and fibre-rich foods, and not overloading your digestive system. It’s also important to get enough vitamin C, zinc and other vitamins and minerals that are needed to make collagen – the protein from which skin and muscles are made.

Femoral hernias can show no actual symptoms and may cause severe complications if left untreated. The actual surgical maneuver is pushing the hernial content back into the abdomen and repair the problem causing the weakening of the abdominal wall.

Hernia is a problem that can be treated. Its repair may be performed under local or general anesthesia. Even though is a safe surgery, hernia repair is not recommended for all the patients. Many factors may influence the choice of having a surgical intervention. These factors include age, health the type of hernia. Complications may occur if the patient is a smoker or an alcoholic.

This procedure would require several small incisions in order for the surgeon to insert a miniature camera to see what’s inside and properly place sutures over the area that has been damaged. This is often preferred by people who had surgeries before on the same area and recovery is quicker compared to herniorrhaphy. However, hernias do have the tendency to recur.

Most people do not have symptoms and no treatment is needed. If symptoms do occur, initial treatment may include medication to control acid reflux, and a change in diet. Weight loss is often recommended as a means of reducing the pressure on the hernia. If symptoms are chronic and do not respond to diet and medication, surgery may become necessary.

Hiatal hernia can be easily kept under control if the patient does not go overboard and keeps a strict diet regimen. Most of the time people with this condition do not have to undergo any invasive procedure. Abdominal massage can prove to be extremely effective in relieving the symptoms associated with this disease. If you seem to suffer from similar conditions, it will be a great idea to consult with the doctor.

Osteoarthritis and early alternative treatment options

Osteoarthritis is often referred to as degenerative joint disease or osteoarthosis. It is a chronic disease process that affects joints. Arthritis is one of the most ancient pathological conditions. Advanced Massage Therapy and Exercise have been long used in ancient cultures to help with pain relief of this often debilitating condition.

The most common areas affected by osteoarthritis are the hands, the spine, the hips, and most frequently the knees. Often we experience symptoms but ignore them as we consider them just normal for the process of aging. Here are some of the most common symptoms:

Stiffness after getting up, making it difficult to walk before gaining normal gait.

Weakness or swelling especially in the knees when climbing stairs or walking downhill or certain exercises.

Decreased joint mobility making it hard to extend or bend legs for instance.

Swollen and inflamed joint, warm to touch after exercising, accompanied with muscle spasm.

Grating and Grinding noise of a joint.

What are the Causes

There are five major causes of osteoarthritis. While some of them our out of our control, others are definitely in our control.

Injury. Any injury that has torn or damaged cartilage, tendons or ligaments or even some bone fractures.

Inherited weaknesses such as misalignment of skeletal bones or soft cartilages.

Diseases, most common are auto-immune disorders. Some medications that are taken regularly, especially cortisone can destruct cartilage.

Wrong life-style choices which could include poor exercising and bad diets creating too much weight and pressure on joints, especially the knees.

Structural Imbalance which could be due to repetitive exercising without stretching. This will eventually lead to misalignment. Another factor could be postural imbalance.

Once the joint’s functionality has been decreased, cartilage begins breaking off, pushing small pieces into the synovial fluid. Synovial fluid is the joint’s lubrication. This causes the fluid to become watery, reducing its lubricating ability. It also starts the process of releasing cartilage-softening enzymes. This is actually the beginning of an irreversible domino effect.

Massage and Alternative Treatment Options

Advanced Massage Therapy and Ancient Healing Techniques have proven successful in treating the early stages of Osteoarthritis. In the later stages Massage Therapy can still be used as natural form of pain relief but might have to be accompanied with other forms of treatments.

Once we experience some sort of arthritic pain or sign, we should no longer wait but to have the affected joint evaluated. The cause could be as simple as a shortened muscle due to overuse. This can be easily corrected with deep tissue massages or a very effective structural integration technique, called Rolfing. This actually happened to me personally. Having been a ski instructor I was suffering with knee pain and slight grinding noises. A surgeon suggested knee operation. I took my painful knee to a Rolfer to pointed out the misalignment of my kneecap due to shortened muscle. He relengthened all the surrounding and involved muscles and instructed certain strength exercises. The outcome was a painless knee again without surgery.

But not all joint pain is due to the above mentioned reason. Disease could be an underlying factor and then a Rolfer won’t be able to help you much with that. Ancient Chinese Medicine is based on the beliefs that all disease is caused by blocked energy. Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient Japanese form of energy healing based on Traditional Chinese Medicine who has many success stories in treating ailments. It is important to find out the cause of the condition and treat the causing factor and not the symptom.
