Ventral Hernia: This is a fairly general term that may describe a hernia taking place at various abdominal sites such as the site of a previous surgery (incisional hernia), above the umbilicus (epigastric hernia), or on the side of the abdomen (spigelian hernia).

An incisional hernia might also take place at the umbilicus; however that doesn’t make it an umbilical hernia.

Abdominal hernia: Abdominal hernia occurs when the peritoneal lining of the abdominal cavity protrudes through a defect in the fascia that normally contains it. Simply stated, the fascia develops a tear, and the peritoneal lining “spills out,” in pretty much the same way that an inflated inner tube will bulge out from a cut in the sidewall of a tire. In some instances, only an empty sac protrudes through the fascia. However if the fascial defect is large enough, the sac can contain abdominal contents (normally intestines).

Epigastric: These take place because of weakness in the muscles of the upper-middle abdomen, above the navel (the epigastric region).

How Elderly People Can Avoid Constipation

Avoid alcohol and caffeine as much as possible

Weight Loss Surgery Should Be A Last Resort

Weight loss surgery is becoming popular as a solution to being severely overweight particularly in cases where a person finds it too difficult to lose weight through diet and exercise alone.

Bariatric surgery is the general term for this procedure, which works by surgically reducing the volume of the stomach. This restricts the amount of food a person can eat. It also alters the physiological as well as psychological responses of an overweight individual to food.

The result is rapid and dramatic weight loss. It should be noted, however, that it carries many risks connected with the procedure itself and its post-surgery effects. These risks include the following.

Surgical complications

Greatly overweight individuals have a higher rate of complications. For instance, they are much more prone to pulmonary embolism or blockage of the lungs. This is usually a fatal condition. Post-operative Pneumonia is also more likely in the obese. Wound infections become more likely, and because of the size and depth of the wound, can take a long time to heal. Complications can be much harder to identify and control in the morbidly obese patient. For instance, X-Rays do not penetrate deep enough, and the pictures are less clear. Additionally, very large patients may not be able to fit in some medical equipment.

Difficult operation

Bodily organs are fitted together. In order for a surgeon to see and operate on a specific area, the organs need to be held and separated in what is known as “surgical exposure.” This procedure can be very difficult to carry out in severely overweight patients because of the presence of great amounts of fat covering the organs. It would also make it more difficult to stitch surgical wounds.

Ineffective anesthesia

It could be difficult for anesthesiologists to determine and administer the right doses of anesthesia for severely overweight patients, again because of the great amount of fat, which may absorb the drug rendering it less effective during the operation, and more difficult to eliminate from the body after the operation.

Various other serious complications

There are a number of other risks and complications including infections, hernia, and blood clots.

Fatal result

Statistics for the number of people who die from causes directly connected to weight loss surgery vary, with one set of data claiming a figure of one out of fifty patients and another showing a figure of one out of every two hundred. Yet another set of data indicates two percent of all patients die within a month of the operation because of complications.

Weight loss surgery has seen improvements in recent years, with fewer risks and greater chances for patients to recover successfully and move on to better lives. However, it is still a serious procedure with unforeseen dangers for any individual. Therefore, unless it can be determined that it carries far more benefits than risks for a particular person, it should still be treated as a last resort.

The Basenji, The Barkless Dog

Though it is true that they do not bark, they certainly are not silent. When happy they make an unusual chortling and yodeling sound and when angry they growl like any other dog. They are one of the oldest dog breeds and originally hail from central Africa. They are sight hounds and were used to hunt small game.

The Basenji is an extremely intelligent and clever dog, who can and will outwit the casual owner. These dogs take dedication and are definitely best for those with experience. Like most highly intelligent dogs they can be rather independent and are always curious. They need to be kept busy or they can cause mischief. A bored Basenji may chew and can be prone to wandering. Unlike any other dog the Basenji likes to climb. They can climb fences, trees and some owners have even found them sleeping on top of bookcases or the fridge. They are a hard dog to contain if they do not want to be.

The Basenji tends to bond closely with one person and is often aloof with strangers. They are always alert and possess a never failing courage that makes them a dependable home protector. They are an extremely playful dog, who is tireless and always ready for fun. Owners need to stay one step ahead of this clever little dog. They are experts at getting their own way and will be running the household if allowed to get away with it.

CHILDREN: Though the Basenji is usually good with youngsters when he is raised with them, they still do best in a home with older children.

OTHER ANIMALS: Most times the Basenji can live peacefully with other dogs and even cats, especially when brought up with them. Though many can be tenacious with strange dogs and all should be watched carefully around small animals as they are scent hounds and hunters.

EXERCISE: Despite their size the Basenji is definitely not a lap dog. In their home country of Africa they were used as a jungle guide, hunter, pointer and retriever of small game. They are definitely not a sedentary dog. Care should be taken when allowing them off their leash as they are a sight hound and can be gone in seconds. Basenji enthusiast’s might enjoy entering their dog in conformation shows, obedience and agility trials, lure coursing, flyball or scent hurdles. They also make a fine jogging companion.

HEALTH: Eye problems, digestive upsets, severe kidney disorders, respiratory problems and hernia are all problems that owners of Basenji’s should watch out for. Due to being a primitive breed, females only come into heat once a year. Many Basenji’s enjoy some green vegetables in their diet. They do not do well in cold weather. The Basenji’s usual life span is around 13 years.

APPEARANCE/COAT CARE: The Basenji is a small graceful dog, athletic and lithe. They have a short glossy coat and a curled tail. Their coat comes in black and tan, chestnut red, black or brindle and needs only a quick brushing once a week. They weigh between 21-24 pounds and measure 16-17 inches. They are an extremely clean dog with no hint of body odour and clean themselves much like a cat.

A sense of abdominal discomfort, and abdominal pain after eating or difficult bowel movements can be caused by various factors.One was due to intestinal sticky. What are the characteristics of intestinal sticky?

Colonic obstruction is often caused by neoplasms or anatomic abnormality such as volvulus, hernia inkarserata, stricture or obstipasi. Handling of colonic obstruction is more complex because the problem can not be lost with a single operation only.Sometimes quite difficult to determine what type of colon surgery because it requires a precise diagnosis of the causes and anatomic location. In the case of colonic malignancy, treatment of patients not only stop after colostomy surgery, but requires radiation and sitostatica further. This is why management of colonic obstruction is so complicated and complex than small bowel obstruction. 

Given the handling of ileus can be divided into operative and conservative, then this is very influential on mortality ileus. The operation is also determined by the availability of appropriate facilities and infrastructure, skills, and economic ability of the patient. Things that can affect these factors will also affect the pattern of management of patients with ileus which ultimately affect the mortality ileus. These factors also influenced by very different from one area to another area so interesting to study mortality ileus in patients undergoing surgery with patients treated conservatively.
